Different modes for
different moods​

Our software is built for three operating modes: DriveCruise, and Ride. Drive functions are always activated, while Cruise features must be turned on. Ride indicates self-driving and is permitted in limited environments. The key distinction between the modes lies in their supervised versus unsupervised nature.

In Drive mode, you drive.

Drive includes features such as automatic braking and steering, which alert or intervene when necessary to prevent the car from crashing. These features are usually activated but typically remain silent, meaning drivers don’t have to adjust to them.

In Cruise mode, you supervise.

Cruise helps the driver maintain distance, speed, and lane position. Drivers can enable these features to enhance safety and reduce effort. Cruise mode aligns with the *SAE Automation Level 2 category, requiring driver supervision at all times.

In Ride mode, you relax.

Ride means the car assumes complete control of the driving task in specific traffic environments. This corresponds with automation Levels 3 and 4 according to the SAE standard. This mode is limited to designated road segments, but the capability will expand.

From raw data to real impact

Our work relies on using good data, and we handle it with utmost care. For one, we anonymize all images to protect the privacy of every individual. This is far from trivial and requires extensive studies, as does nearly everything we do. If you’re curious about our research fields, browse our publications or watch the video.

We use lidar, radar, and cameras to collect data on lane markings, cars, bicycles, trucks, and countless other objects. The collection cars have a platform mounted on the roof containing the different reference sensors. You can read more about data collection in our Privacy Policy.

When the Polestar 3 was launched, driver support was an important consideration. The release was a big step towards making driving safer, and we’re thrilled to make the Polestar 3 smarter, safer, and more convenient to drive.
